Pick Your Avatar Once: Set a Default In-Game Avatar

Your in-game avatar is the picture that sits in your seat at the table — the thing everyone else actually sees while you’re playing. It’s the fastest way to show up as you at a poker table, and it’s where custom uploads and Premium Avatar packs end up.

There was one problem: it never stuck.

Until now, your in-game avatar was picked per game. Every new table, every tournament, every session started you back at the default picture, and if you wanted your avatar you had to open the picker and choose it again. Do that a few times and most people simply stop bothering — which is a strange outcome for something you deliberately uploaded or bought.

So we fixed the root cause: you can now set a default in-game avatar. Pick it once, and it’s applied for you every time you sit down.

How to set it

Inside any game, open the avatar picker as you always have.

1. Every avatar tile now has a gear icon instead of the old X.
2. Tap the gear to open a screen for that specific avatar.
3. Tap Set as Default Avatar.

That’s it. The avatar is applied to your current seat right away, and a ★ star badge appears on its tile so you can tell at a glance which one is your default.

It works the same on both tabs of the picker — your own uploads and your My Premium Avatars from avatar packs. Before this update there was nowhere at all to set a default for an avatar you had bought; now the same gear opens the same screen for both.

The gear screen also has big, thumb-sized buttons on purpose. The old X was a tiny target on mobile, and the actions that matter — setting a default, deleting an upload — deserved better than a corner tap.

What happens next time you sit down

From then on, sitting down at a table applies your default automatically. That covers:

• Home Games — including when you come off the waitlist or get approved into a table.
• Multi-Table Tournaments (MTTs)
• Sit & Go, Heads Up and Final Table on Community

You don’t have to open the picker at all. You just show up wearing your avatar.

You can still change it at any single table

The default is a starting point, not a lock.

• Pick a different avatar in the picker at any table, and that table uses it — your global default stays exactly as it was.
• Tap Remove Avatar in the picker, and that table shows no avatar at all. We treat that as a real decision, not as “nothing chosen yet”, so it won’t be quietly refilled.
• Tap Remove as Default Avatar on the gear screen, and your global default is cleared while the avatar stays in your current seat.

In other words: the default decides how you arrive. What you do once you’re at the table is still yours.

How it behaves in tournaments

Multi-table tournaments move you between tables, so there’s a rule worth knowing: your default seeds you once, at your first table of the tournament.

After that, whatever you’re currently wearing follows you — through every table move and through re-entries — including “no avatar” if you removed it. If you switch avatars at table 3, table 4 keeps the new one.

The flip side: changing your global default in the middle of a running tournament won’t change that tournament. It applies to the next one you enter. That’s deliberate — a table move shouldn’t be a chance for your look to change out from under you mid-run.

Where avatars come from

Two sources feed the picker, and both can be your default:

• Uploads — your own image, cropped in-app. Uploading and using a custom avatar is a Plus perk, and that stays true for defaults: an uploaded avatar is auto-applied while your Plus subscription is active.
• Premium Avatar packs — bought with NOW Coins. These are yours for good, so a pack avatar is applied as your default regardless of your plan.

A note on deleting uploads

The X that used to delete an upload is gone — it’s the gear now, and Delete lives inside the gear screen, next to Set as Default. Deleting is one extra tap than before, which is on purpose: it’s the one action here you can’t undo. (Pack avatars can’t be deleted, so their gear screen shows only Set as Default.)

If you delete an upload that was your default, the default is cleared with it.

How do I set a default avatar on Poker Now?

Open the avatar picker inside any game, tap the gear icon on the avatar you want, and choose Set as Default Avatar. A star badge marks your default, and it’s applied automatically the next time you sit at a table.

Does the default avatar work in tournaments?

Yes. In an MTT your default is applied when you first sit at a table in that tournament, and your current avatar then follows you through table moves and re-entries. Changing your global default won’t affect a tournament already in progress.

Can I use a different avatar at just one table?

Yes. Choosing another avatar in the picker only affects that table; your global default is untouched.

How do I remove my default avatar?

Tap the gear on the avatar and choose Remove as Default Avatar. That clears the default only — the avatar stays in your current seat. To clear the avatar at the table you’re at, use Remove Avatar in the picker.

Do I need Plus to have a default avatar?

You need Plus to upload and use a custom avatar, so an uploaded default is applied while your Plus subscription is active. Avatars from Premium Avatar packs are bought with NOW Coins and are applied as your default on any plan.

Where did the delete button on my avatars go?
